3.4: Monitor Of Creativity

19th November: Investigating Artefacts (Powerpoint)

On the 19th November, we were briefed on what the Artefact course was going to be about and some of the tasks we were going to undertake.
We started by researching different types of artefacts and artists in order to get a better understanding of them.
We had to create a presentation about the information we gathered and it had to include:
- What an artefact is
- Images of artefacts
- Famous Artists
- Where an artefact can be found in the media industry
The planning process of creating an artefact is very important as it can reflect the rest of the actual decision. Also it can make the creation easier for the artist as they already have a preconceived idea for the design and can portray it straight onto the artefact.
*I think I have developed my research skills and my ways of extracting the important information. I think I could have improved on what I put in the presentation as I didn't put much of it down

1st December: Investigating Artefacts (Powerpoint)

Today, I continued to create my first Powerpoint about artefacts and tried to look deeper into it. The Powerpoint doesn't only reflect on our knowledge and research on Artefacts, it also reflects on or creativity in the sense of how we present it and what it looks like. The idea is to show your work in an interesting, creative way.
*I think one of my strengths with this Powerpoint is my creativity to it because the design is very original and I have added my own personal views and ideas on how to create it and make it interesting. Also I think I have done well in finding out information for it. Having said that, I think that one of my weaknesses have been time keeping as this could have been done by the last lesson.

3rd December: Investigating Artefacts (Powerpoint)

Today we are doing further research into artefacts and the different types. I made a second Powerpoint about props and the making process for a stage performance. The powerpoint covers props on stage, making props, top tips, set design and costume. Having done this, I think it has made me understand that an artefact can be more or less anything that is man made! I now think I have a good understanding of atefacts and can comfortably move on to the next work in this unit.

10th December: Investigating Grayson Perry

Today we have learnt about an artist called Grayson Perry who is famous for making clay pots and being a cross-dresser. We analysed some of his art and wrote a bit about it on an analysing art worksheet, then were told to do our own research on him to help us with his work. I think that some of Grayson Perry's work is very interesting as they are extremely detailed and look as if they have a significant story to them or he is just really creative.

15th December: Making Clay Tile

Today we ad to create a clay tile with anything we wanted on it and it could be however we wanted it to be. The exercise was so that we can get familiar with using the clay and could express our creative influences. My tile, in my opinion, was very unique as it differed from everyone else's and at the same time reflected on me and my personality. I did a microphone and considering it was my first, it was quite successful. I just hope that the end product will look good but I will just have to wait and see once it is out of the kiln.

17th December: Making plan for clay pot

Now that our practice artefact (the tile) has been made, it is now time to get onto the real thing. But before we do it, we have to make a plan with various ideas of how you want your clay pot to look. We have been told that the pot has to reflect on our identity/personality with the things we think make us who we are. The idea is to cover the whole pot into almost like a collage. The idea was inspired by some of Grayson Perry's own work. Our plan needs to be filled with text aswell, explaining your designs in detail.

7th January: Making sample pot.

Today we are creating our clay pots. We have to create it in the shape of our choice and make it original. I think it will be harder then I expected it to be because their are a lot of processes that are done to make it. Hopefully my final product will be successful.
I have made my new pot now and I am quite happy with it. I think that it was difficult when it comes to building up the pot without it leaning or breaking. Also trying to smooth it out is quite difficult because you have to spend a lot of tie on it. My pot is ready to be put in the kiln and I wait until I can decorate it.
*I think I have done well in creating my pot within a the time span given. However I do think that I could have been a little more creative with the shape of my work but I am satisfied with it though.

12th January: Completing clay pot experiments

My pot has been put in the kiln and luckily didn't explode/break so I can now design it. I had previously cut pictures and words from newspapers and magazines to put onto my pot. I cut out things I thought would be good to show my identity and were similar to my plan. I did it at home so it was all ready for me to do at school. I had to think of ways to fit them all on and for them to look nice.
* I think one of my strengths in creating my clay pot would be the choosing the pictures for it as I haven't been blatant about them. however , I think one of my weaknesses has been the shape of my pot as it is very simple and not very interesting.

14th January: Investigating Michael Raedecker, Planning painting

The artist that we are are studying today is Michael Raedecker. He is an artist who is famous for his abstract paintings. Ive looked at some of his work and I noticed that his painting looks so simple but with so much intricate detail. We had to look at some of his work and choose a painting to do out own version on. Once we chosen ours, we had to start planning to actually do the the painting. First we pencil-sketched the drawing vaguely including as much detail as we could. That was the start of
our painting completed.
* I think I sketched the painting quite well and precise. However, I do think I could have included a little more detail.

21st January: Developing painting

We started to develop our paintings, adding more details to it to make it look more realistic. Then we actually started painting it. I had to identify the colours in which go best with and resemble the painting by mixing colours together and blending. I found it hard to paint it and still make it look like the original. So instead, I decided to create my own interpretation of it. In the end, I was quite proud of my painting as I felt it was quite successful.

*I think i did well with making my painting as I made it have my unique touch and my interpretation of his own painting.

26th January: Investigating Wafa Hourani

In today's lesson, we researched about an artist named Wafa Hourani. He is an artist that is known for creating small model buildings. We had to do our own research on him and present it in our own way. I found out a lot about him and his unique work. He is a very talented artist. We learnt that we too will be creating our own buildings and designing them ourselves. We were briefed on what we will need to do and how to do it.
* I think I have done well in researching my work uniquely and think I have developed my research skills a lot. I could have presented my findings in a more interesting way then a word document but it's satisfactory.

29th January: Developing building

As we had now completed our research, we started to make plans for our building. These plans included the design, the materials, the time it should take and the era it is from (past, present, future). I started making my plans and decided how I wanted my building to look. I learned that we would be making it out of cardboard so I had to think of how realistic it would be to make my designs. This factor was what I based my plans on.
*I think I have made a successful plan which will help me with the making process of the building and make it a lot easier for me.

4th February: Developing building

Today we started creating
the base for the buildings and adding small details to it. It was very difficult to measure the size of the base and know how big you wanted it to be. This is because you didn't want it to be too big that you couldn't fill it out but you didn't want it to be too small that you can't fit it in their. In the end, I decided to make it rather big because I wanted a lot of things on it. I started to create a building on my base. It was really abstract and unusual.
* I think I did well with making decisions on my base size but I think I could have done better with the building that I made.

9th February: Developing building

I decided to change the building that I made as I don't think it fit my theme of the olympics and therefore took it off and decided to start again. In this lesson, I created a 'square and circle' building to go on my base. I think that it was quite successful as this was abstract unique and just very different. I then thought of creating a replica of the olympic stadium. So i started to create it in this lesson. It is coming along really good and will hopefully look nice. In the next lesson I just have to finish it.
*I think I have done well in adapting my ideas and developing them. Also I think I have done well in applying my creative ideas to work and keeping to my time-span. However I could've maybe done a little bit more as there isn't a lot of stuff on it.

11th February: Developing buidling

During this lesson, I developed my olympic stadium replica and finally completed it. As the stadium was rather large, it covered most areas of my base and therefore didn't need many other details to it. However, i saw that it only had one building and the stadium so I got an idea of what I could add to it. I decided to add a billboard behind the stadium which resembled a billboard promoting sport aswell as a screen that is shown in stadiums. I also added a car park to add a bit more of a venue theme.

*In this lesson, I think I did well with completing my building on time which shows that I managed my time well. However, I do think that I could have included a bit more details on it.

25th February: Investigating Costumes

In today's lesson, we moved onto the creating of a costume. Before we began, we did our own research on Elizabeth Lecourt. She is an artist that designs vlothing out of paper! The amazing creations which she produces from PAPER is amazing. They are all very detailed and fashionable but just with paper. I did my own findings and presented them on a word document.

*I think I have developed my research skills a lot over researching all the artists.

16th March: Developing Costumes

In this lesson, we started to plan our creation of the costume. As this is quite a difficult thing to do, the plan had to contain a lot of detail. Detail such as the audience that it's for, the type of dress etc. I made my plans and designs for the costume and developed them in detail

*I think I have done well with making a clear plan for my costume and now know what I need to do.

18th March: Developing Final Ideas

In this lesson, we started the creation of the costume. In the beginning, I started by making a shirt. Halfway through the creation of this, I realised that this will be a lot harder than I thought it would be and decided to change my idea to a dress. So I quickly sketched an image of a dress and used the same plans for the shirt on my dress. I had enough time to change my idea so I did. I managed to complete the dress in the time we had which I was very proud of as I changed my idea halfway through.
*I did well with keeping my time and getting it done. I should have assessed my previous plans so that I didn't have to change them before I did the practical.

25th March: Making final artefact

During this lesson, we decided to make a final piece of any of the artefacts that we had previously made. I decided to make a second clay pot. I did this because I was happy with the first one but it wasn't the design of the pot that I wanted it to be. So, I began to make a thorough plan in order to create a successful pot which is exactly how I want it. I made my detailed plan, ready for the next lesson to begin creating.
* I learnt form my other plans and made this one full of necessary details.

30th March: Making final artefact

Today we began creating the new clay pots. We used the same procedure as before but just made it bigger. This time when making, I made the shape different to suit the style that I wanted it to be. It was big with a curved surface. At the top, the sides were folding over in a flower style which was the look that I was going for. It was completed by the end of the lesson which was good time-keeping.

1st April: Making final artefact

After my pot had come out of the kiln, I started
to add my designs to my pot. On this pot, I was going to make it about one of my friends that passed away, but it didn't really work out. So i changed my idea back to being about my personality. I got flags of the countries I am from and words that describe me and what I was feeling
*I did good at adapting my ideas and relating them to my personality. However, my planning of my design of the pot proved to not have been very helpful and I should hav edone a better job of it.

22nd April: Completing artefact

I added the images to my pot and my final designs. I didn't think it looked quite right as it was rather bare so I did some patterns to go on to it. In the end my pot was completely covered however I wasn't satisfied with the final outcome of it.
* I think if I had put in a bibt more effort on the big pot, it would have come out better. Overall, I was more satisfied with my small pot rather then my small pot.

27th April: Completing any work

This lesson was for completing any unfinished work ready for assessment. I made my own picture storyboard about the creation of a clay pot. I also sorted out my folder by putting everything under the right sub-unit and in the right order. This lesson was very useful as it prepared us for the assessment.
* I used my time productively and managed to sort some of my things out.

29th April: Developing and refining work

Today was the last lesson on Artefact in which we could finalise all work and submit it for assessment. Today's lesson was extremely useful to me as I got the chance to go over with my teacher, any improvements that needed to be made and changes needed. I completed my work and it is now ready for submission.
* I completed my work on time and managed my time well.
