2.4: Mime Performance & Evaluation.

The group

1. How did the group perform?
As a group, I think we performed exceptionally well and I also think that we all made a huge effort. We all tried our hardest in order to make it as interesting and humorous as possible and it seemed to have paid off in the performance.

2. What did they do well?
I think that we all did well in adapting to any slight mistakes or sudden changes that happened during the performance and made it seem like it was meant to happen. Also, I think that we did well in staying in character and embracing the character, in order to make the role seem believable.

3. What could they have done better?
I think we could have done better in preparing the sound effects for the performance and doing it earlier so that we could have had longer to plan it and practice with them so that there would have been less mistakes.

YOU

1. How did you carry out your duties?
I made sure that I balanced out my duties, in order to reach a deadline and make sure I fulfilled them to the fullest.

2. What did you do well?
As mentioned earlier, I think I did well in fulfilling my duties and putting in all that I could in order to get the best out of the performance. I attended all rehearsals and tried to perfect my role to make it believable and an interesting character. When performing, I think I did well in staying in role and exaggerating my movements to portray a story.

3. What could you have done better?
I think that I could have done better with organising myself and organising out sound effects rather than just relying on Mr Mackintosh.

AUDIENCE

1. How did the audience respond during the show?
The audience responded cooperatively during the show, laughing at the parts that were meant to be funny and ‘awing’ when it was meant to be sad. This helped a lot during the show because it was almost a sign of encouragement for us and it egged us on which brought the best performance out of us.

2. What did they say after?
I have two reviews from two different teachers that saw our show. This is what they said.
“When I saw the ‘ssshhh…’ posters around the school, I was intrigued, which turned into excitement when Mr Williams introduced the opening number of the Oscars evening was ‘ssshhh...’ I was blown away with the talent and originality of the year 10 mime piece. Funny, fast-paced, original, creative and so well put together. Well done girls it was a wonderful start to an excellent evening.”
Miss T. Seager.
“ An imaginative, creative performance. What a talented group of individuals. Mesmerising & visually stimulating. Thoroughly enjoyable.”
Miss Demetriou.

These reviews show me that they enjoyed our performance a lot.

ACCOUNTS

How much money was spent?
For our performance, we only spent money on the face-paint and wipes and nothing else. We didn’t need any money for anything else as we already had the equipment. The face-paint only came up to £15 so we decided, instead of raising money; we should all give £1 as there was 15 of us. So that is what we did.

2.4: Mime Performance

In this video, I played in two separate scenes but as the same character. The first scene that I was in is the paired scene. My scene was the last paired scene that was shown where we are digging in a graveyard atmosphere and burying something (a body) and then the body starts making noises from underneath. We get scared and run away. I am the girl that is on the left-hand side wearing the white shirt and the green and blue striped tie. After our scene, most of the cast board the 'bus' and do a little dance.
In the second group scenes, again, I was in the last group that performed. The scene is about two fanatics that do all that they can to get to their idol, Victoria Beckham, and wont let any fall backs stop them. My costume is the same as it was in the previous scene, a white shirt and green and blue striped tie.

· what was done

· what contribution you made

· What you learned

· What skills you think you developed

WEEK

MY LOG

WEEK 1 : What is Mime

-During this week, we were introduced to the mime topic as a whole and did various pieces of research on the history of mime and how it has changed over time.
-It was actually my idea to use mime as our stimuli piece for performance.
- I learnt about the history of mime and the origin of it and developed my understanding of the types of mime.
- By doing this, I feel like I developed my research skills.

WEEK 2: Watching Mime Performances

- We watched various mime performances, both modern and older, and looked at the skills and aspects which they used in order to make the things being mimed seem that they were actually there. We looked at some of Charlie Chaplin’s old work, some work from a couple of mimes which made a video in their spare time and a video of a man re-enacting 9/11.
- I made some suggestions on what videos we should watch.
- I learnt how different mimes approach the way of portraying an object that isn’t seen.
- I think I recognised the way that I will attempt approaching mime and the way to make it seem real.

WEEK 3: The Elements of Mime

- We looked at mime in depth and started creating our Power Point presentation with the information about the history of mime.
- I researched in more depth about mime.
- I learnt a lot about the beginnings of mime and how it has developed.
- I think that by doing this, I’ve developed my researching skills.

WEEK 4: Who is Our Audience? What do they want?

- We tried to identify who our audience was going to be which would then help us to shape our mime performance around it.
- I helped to come to the decision of our final audience group (10-50year olds).
- I learnt that it is best that you decide on the target audience before you begin creating the performance.
- I developed the skills to identify the target audience of a performance and to work around that.

WEEK 5: Ideas for Paired Performance

- This week we decided on having a paired performance as well as a group one to add to the overall mime piece. So we got into pairs and brainstormed ideas on what each paired performance could be about.
- I thought of some of the ideas that we could use for the paired performance.
- I developed my miming skills and how I can portray my character and a scene.

WEEK 6: Ideas for Group performance

- This week we began brainstorming about how we can show our given stimuli (fan and fanatic) and identify the individual characters.
- I thought of many different ideas and ways that we can do this and we weighed up all of our ideas.
- I learnt how to compromise ideas in order to create a successful show.
- I developed my team-working skills.

WEEK 6: Storyboarding

- Once we had deciding on our chosen scene, we started to put it in a storyboard form in order to make it easier to remember and expand on.
- I created my own storyboard.
- I learnt how to storyboard our ideas.

WEEK 7: Organising Rehearsals and Props and Equipment

- We all debated on the days for rehearsals and discussed the props and equipment needed.
- I helped come to the decision of the days when we should hold our rehearsals and some of the decisions towards equipment.
- I learnt that when making decisions like these, you need to all be able to compromise as everyone has different schedules.

WEEK 7: Choreography

- This week we dedicated it to choreography, so that we can get everything on point and perfect
- As I am the choreographer, I had to come up with the dances and teach it to the rest of the cast.
- I learnt that you have to be patient when teaching as people work at different levels and speeds.
- I perfected the skill on teaching people choreography effectively.

WEEK 8: Rehearsal

- This week we did hardcore rehearsals on the scenes, both group and partners.
- I rehearsed my group scene and my partner scene.
- I learnt that it takes a lot of rehearsals before you get something right.
- I developed my miming skills.

WEEK 9 : Rehearsal & Production Meeting

- Again, this week we rehearsed our scenes and verified certain issues.
- I took part in the rehearsals and the production meetings.
- I learnt that its important to attend all rehearsals.

WEEK 10: Campaign/ Promotion Plan

- We went over the promotion plan.
- As part of the promotion team, we went over way in which to promote the performance creatively.
- I learnt the different types of ways to promote.
- I developed my promoting skills.

WEEK 11: Rehearsal – Visit from Professional Mime Artist

- We had more rehearsals and had a visit from a Professional Mime Artist.
- I took part in rehearsals and the training sessions with the mime artist.
- I learnt the techniques in which to perform mime.

WEEK 12: Dress and Technical Rehearsals

- We did our final rehearsals in costume and with sound effects.
- I took part in the rehearsals.

- I learnt that you have to be patient when doing a tech rehearsal in order to get everything right.
- I developed my patience by doing this type of rehearsal.

WEEK 13: Performance

- This week we performed the performance that we had rehearsed for.
- I performed and fulfilled my backstage responsibilities.
- I learnt how to remain in character when performing.
- I developed my performing skills and my miming skills.

2.3: Refining Ideas

In the planning process of the performance, a lot of slight changes and alterations had to be made in order to make it as interesting as possible and a successful performance.
- Straight away, the first change that had to be done was the designated rehearsal days as it proved that the days were not appropriate as not many people would turn up to them which led to not much getting done. So to resolve this, we all went through our timetables and checked the days when we were free so that we could all attend and get the most out of rehearsals.
- When creating our paired scenes, we thought of doing a scene where we were two friends who disagreed on a situation and then fell out. But the thing with this scenario is that it would be very hard to portray a clear story of what's happening through mime, so we decided to change it to us digging in a graveyard and burying a body as this is a very physical and would be much clearer for the audience to understand what's going on.
- Another thing that was altered is our group scene. At the beginning, there was only Sabrina and I in the group. However, another two people, Siddiquea and Shapla, had to join our group as they weren't there when the roles were being allocated. Sabrina and I had already started creating the scenes for it so we had to slot Siddiquea and Shapla into them and slightly alter certain aspects.
- When making the opening and closing scenes, a lot was changed as Sir didn't think something was quite right. So we weighed up each ideas and produced a whole new one, which I feel was successful.
- We had to shorten our group mime performance, as it was becoming too long and was exceeding the time limit. Therefore we had to cut certain parts of it out and adapt to doing it all in a shorter time.
- For the promotion plan, we intended to do a flash mob in order to entice our audience to want to find out what it was all about. As time was tight, we decided it was best if we left this idea for something else as we didn't have enough spare time to do it and the planning of a performance is hard and time consuming as it is!

Song: Usher - O.M.G
Gwen Stefani - Holla Back Girl

- Zara, Alberta, Siddiquea and Sabrina in the green area.
- Abigail, Rubina and Tiyonne have to go to the shelter and get more people to the green area. You'll have to say that there is BEEF.
- The rest of the class will be all scattered around the green area and make sure all your friends are with you.
- Alberta is walking around with her friends in the green area looking pissed.
- Zara has to walk up to her and ask her what her problem is.
- Sabrina has to help calm things down but it doesn't work and she starts to support Zara.
- Everyone should be all gathering and that's when Siddiquea has to look around to see that the whole C.M team is around the big circle then she screams "GUYS! Shhh.."
- This is the cue for the music. Zara, Alberta, Siddiqua and Sabrina start dancing.
- Gradually, the whole C.M group starts dancing.
